2005 To 2015: Lecturer in the Faculty of Science, Departments of Biological Sciences and Environmental Sciences Master of Science Postgraduate Programmes at the Islamic University in Uganda (East Africa).

2004. Technician (seasonal contracts) at the School of Plant Sciences, University of Reading, U.K. My tasks included microscopic investigations on flower initiation in plant samples sent by growers from different parts of the UK. Growers used the data to develop models to predict seasonal yield estimates. I also taught horticulture to students in the department.

1997-2000- Hospital Administrator Kibuli Muslim Hospital- I was overall supervisor of all administrative functions in the Hospital. I liaised with the general public. I established a personnel system and streamlined staff performance.

1993-1997- Projects (Health, and Orphanage) Coordinator with the International Islamic Relief Organization and Muslim World League, Uganda offices. During this time I developed a database for all orphans being catered for the two organizations, relief programmes and other out reach activities.

1994-1996- Director Zbt-Institute of Professional Management- Coordinated the formation of the institute under International Islamic Relief Organisation and participated in Vocational Training Programmes (literacy, baking, language, tailoring etc) for youths and women in the surbubs of Kampala City.


OTHER PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCES2005-

To date – I supervised more than Postgraduate students at Masters Level at the Islamic University in Uganda in areas of science and technology or areas related to Agricultural and environmental sciences

2003-2004: I supervised an MSc. (Horticulture) student in the School of Plant Sciences, The University of Reading (UK). The student who was from Greece conducted his MSc research project on ‘the use of plastic films on a biennial fruiting raspberry cultivar. He attained his Master of Science degree with merit. 2002-2004: Student Demonstrator at the School of Plant Sciences, The University of Reading, United Kingdom. Among the tasks accomplished, I assisted in preparing practical lessons for undergraduate students. I ensured good laboratory practice to both staff and students.

2000-2004: Student instruction in horticulture and landscape management. I assisted in delivering lectures and seminars in the department of horticulture and landscape management on different topics/papers to both undergraduates and postgraduates.

2000-2004: Delivered technical talks to commercial farmers/growers in the UK during open days and grower walks. These talks involved explanation of recently developed technologies of crop production and protection. Such talks and open days were co-organized between Reading University and private companies like BPI Agri and Haygroves UK Ltd, both of which are among the largest companies involved in greenhouse/tunnel crop production in Europe.

1997-1999: Started a professional skills training Institute in Kampala Uganda (ZBT- Institute of Professional Management). I was involved in the setup and day to day running of the Institute including but not limited to instruction in various subject areas such as management, business administration, micro-computer applications, hardware maintenance, micro-project development, Research and Development etc.

1999: Facilitated a management development and business planning training programme at Ibadan in Nigeria in which 27 senior managers of Non-government Organizations in Nigeria were involved. I was nominated by the British Council of Nigeria and seconded by the British Council Kampala Office to implement the programme. I was the principle facilitator, and was responsible for the planning, implementation and coordination of the entire programme. The programme was a success story for improved services in the NGO sector in Nigeria.

OTHER ACTIVITIES I HAVE DONE AT ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY

a) Main Person in the establishment of the Islamic University in Uganda Habib Medical School 2013-2014

Facilitated Academic staff ICT training, involving more than 30 members of staff (May-July 2005)

b) Core Organizer of the Research skills Enhancement workshop for Academic staff and post graduate students of Islamic University in Uganda. This resulted into the formation of the University Research Coordination Committee to which I am the chairman.

c) Established collaboration through the University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) in the lake Victoria Basin Research initiative Annual General Meeting in Arusha, Tanzania (2005).

d) Secured a Research Grant for the university worth $19250 for a project to investigate communication and English Skills for female students and staff at IUIU.

e) Secured a contract on behalf of the faculty of science for training staff of Centenary Rural Development Bank in five branches of Northern Eastern Uganda including Lira, Bugiri, Tororo, Mbale, Soroti.

f) Facilitated a training workshop in Pedagogical skills for IUIU Academic staff during Jan 2006. Topic: “The role of ICT in teaching and presentations”

h) Initiated, participated in design and implementation of new courses in the Faculty of science such as Bachelor of Science Food Science and Nutrition, Library information Science, Records Management, Nursing and Midwifery and Livestock Management

l) To date, facilitating the use of E-resources by staff and students via the local area network

m) Coordinator of weekly colloquium programmes-Open forum where students and staff learn new information and knowledge through non-formal methods. More than 30 talks and presentations have been given in three academic semesters (since February 2005)

n) Represented the Rector in different fora, meetings, seminars, workshops both internally at IUIU and externally outside IUIU and Uganda.

 Special attributes and contributions

1) I am a very hard working person with a lot of resilience in terms of being able to work with people of different social, religious, political background and experiences. I listen to what others say but importantly provide excellent leadership.
